A Cu-Battle is a friendly duel between two players' Cubees. Each side fights with its Main and its Duo, the two sides take turns, and the first player to lose both Cubees loses. Nothing is staked: no CuCoins change hands. Every page of the Cubees List has a How to Cu-Battle tile with these rules in short.
Before you start
- Both players need their Cubees out.
- You need the Cubit of at least one of your Cubees. See The Cubee Menu & Cubits.
- The other player must be open to Cu-Battle requests. Everyone is, by default. To open or close your own requests, right-click the Behaviour button on any Cubee's menu; the button shows your current setting. See What is Cubee?
- Social Media Cubees never join a Cu-Battle: while you or the other player has one out, a challenge is refused.
- Your server can bar any Cubee from Cu-Battles. While one is out, its owner can't challenge or be challenged, and chat says it "is not allowed in a Cu-Battle".
On a server running the McPets edition, Cu-Battles are one on one, and only Fighters battle. See McPets Edition.
Sending a challenge
- Hold one of your Cubees' Cubits.
- Left-click the other player's Main Cubee from 7 blocks away or closer. If you click their Duo instead, you are told to aim at the Main.
- They see a title with your name, and must type yes or no in chat within 10 seconds. You see that the request was sent while you wait.
If they are not accepting requests, the chat tells you. After a request there is a short wait before either of you can send or receive another.
Setting up
When the challenge is accepted, the challenger is drawn to a spot in front of the other player and both of you turn to face each other. Your Cubees take their places between you: the Main in front, the Duo a little to one side.
Taking turns
The player who was challenged goes first. A title tells you whose turn it is and counts down your time.
- A turn lasts 6 seconds by default.
- On your turn, hold the Cubit of the Cubee you want to use and left-click one of your opponent's Cubees. Either of your two Cubees can act, as long as you hold its Cubit.
- Outside your turn, your Cubits do nothing.
- Your turn ends 1 second after your ability finishes by default, or when your time runs out. After a pause of 1 second by default, the other player's turn begins.
- Ability cooldowns are 80% shorter by default during a Cu-Battle.
Element matchups count here too: a Cubee whose element beats its target's deals more damage, and less the other way round. See What is Cubee?
Who wins
- Lose both of your Cubees and you lose; your opponent wins.
- While your Duo is still standing, your Main takes 60% less damage by default, so it often pays to take down your opponent's Duo first.
- When a Main falls, its Duo steps up and takes the Main's place.
While it lasts
- A fighting Cubee cannot hurt a player, and no player can hurt a Cubee that is fighting.
- Neither player can summon Cubees until the battle ends.
- If the two of you end up more than 20 blocks apart, or one of you leaves the server, the battle is called off.
- A battle ends by itself after 5 minutes. If nobody has won by then, no win is recorded.
After the battle
Both players see the result in chat. Your Cubees are then called back out, but a Cubee that fell still needs its usual time to recover, 30 seconds by default.
A win counts toward:
- the Valour badge of the Cubee in your Main slot (see Badges)
- quests that ask you to win Cu-Battles (see Quests)
Both are credited through your Main Cubee.
